Our story

CHAISOR, French maker of folding chairs

CHAISOR is a French brand devoted to design and contemporary furniture since 1962. Léo Jouk is the designer and founder of this clever and elegant folding chair. In the late 1950s he drew the chair, then spent several years perfecting its folding system. In 1962 he registered the brand and the CHAISOR design with the French intellectual property office (INPI). The chair folds thanks to two pins sliding in an open U-shaped tube, which makes this upholstered chair extra flat. CHAISOR is often copied but never equalled.

Choose to buy French: for local jobs, for after-sales service at your disposal, and for a 20-year warranty.

Fabrication française de chaise pliante

CHAISOR has become a VINTAGE piece of 1960s furniture: collectors’ pieces can even be found at auction. First sold in the great Paris department stores such as Le Bon Marché, Galeries Lafayette and BHV, notably on wedding lists, owning a CHAISOR and a bridge table was part of Parisian chic for newlyweds, with a demonstrator in every store. CHAISOR is a must among space-saving chairs. Everyone needs a few folding chairs at home as guest chairs: for the holidays or for receptions, we all need extra seating for our guests.

Our factory is based in Saint-Georges-sur-Eure, 100 km from Paris, France.

A workshop in the heart of Eure-et-Loir

Located in Saint-Georges-sur-Eure, near Chartres Cathedral and 100 km from Paris, the CHAISOR workshop has kept the same craftsmanship alive since 1962. Each chair requires 53 successive operations, in a workshop where the craftsman’s hand still rules. The back of the CHAISOR Style is shaped entirely by hand. Its Saint Andrew’s cross brace is fret-cut from steel on a fretting press, a machine that has become rare. Thanks to its U-shaped steel frame, the chair folds in a second and is only 3.5 cm thick: 100 chairs fit into 1 m³.
